SEC Initiative for Business Brokers

Today there is a great deal of activity going on with respect to the securities licensing issue relating to business brokers.  The new series 79 license, the white paper done by the ABA and the push of the AM&AA with their model rules that were submitted to the SEC are but a few of the things pending that affect business brokers.

The New York Association of Business Brokers

The Georgia Association of Business Brokers

The Georgia Association of Business Brokers, Inc. (GABB) was formed in 1986 at Atlanta by a group interested in developing a specialization in business brokerage. Many of the founding members already had commercial real estate experience. In 1994, the organization held its first State Conference with attendees from throughout Georgia, a tradition which has continued with each year’s Conference surpassing the last.

The Michigan Business Brokers Association

The Michigan Business Brokers Association is a non-profit organization whose primary purpose is promoting confidentiality, ethics, and cooperative communication among Professional Business Brokers in Michigan.

The practice of business brokerage, by its very nature, demands that a professional Business Broker possess an acumen for business operations and a respect for confidentiality well beyond that of non-business general practitioners in real estate or commercial fields.

IBBA Elects Alan Clark Vice Chair of Education

The International Business Brokers Association announced today that Alan Clark has been elected Vice Chair – Education, to complete the unexpired term of Jerry Cofield, Jr., who resigned last month.  Jerry Cofield, Jr., who had served as Vice Chair – Education since November, 2006, is credited with leading the effort within the IBBA to dramatically improve the quality of education as well as the quantity of educational course offerings.  During the past 3½ years, IBBA has offered 204 educational courses to more than 5,000 students – business brokers

Challenges For Most Business Brokers When Involving An Attorney In A Transaction

I think the challenge for most business brokers is that we are happy to involve an attorney in a transaction if we know the attorney has the right skill set. A divorce, personal accident injury or bankruptcy attorney is generally not the best type of attorney for a business broker to work with when trying to close a transaction.
