Included in the list of skill sets a successful business broker must have is that of being a top notch detective.   We have to constantly be asking questions from the first time we communicate with a seller or a buyer all the way through closing.  We need to listen to the answers and then, thinking on our feet, we need to ask more questions based on those answers.  And then ask more questions.  (more…)

I am Bob Watson, your new Carolinas-Virginia Business Brokers Association President for 2011.  CVBBA had a very successful 2010, and I would like to thank Gary Gunderson for his excellent leadership as 2010 President.

We should also thank a very active board of directors, as well as Judy Meinecke, our CVBBA administrative assistant. CVBBA ended 2010 with (84) broker members and affiliates; we had (80) total at the end of 2009. If you are aware of our industry’s recent trends, this statistic is impressive. (more…)

MBBI November Meeting will explore M&A in the Healthcare Industry

The economy continues to sputter, M&A transaction values are not even close to what they used to be. In addition, there are far fewer transactions that are happening at all. These statements are all true of M&A activity as it relates to most industries. There is one exception, Healthcare… It’s a bull market in segments of Healthcare, multiples are as high as 2007 and deal activity is increasing. (more…)

SEC Initiative for Business Brokers

Today there is a great deal of activity going on with respect to the securities licensing issue relating to business brokers.  The new series 79 license, the white paper done by the ABA and the push of the AM&AA with their model rules that were submitted to the SEC are but a few of the things pending that affect business brokers.
